Hi Garret, it's me again. I think this piece is something I, in particular, needed to hear. I'm big on money. I like investing, stock trading, basically anything that my mind deems "productive." While these are usually fruitful activities, and I enjoy them, I think I'm typically centering my mind too much on this idea that "I need more money." But as you articulate in this piece, money is just paper at the end of the day. It can get you places, however, do those places really matter to you? To some degree, they do matter to me, just not to the extent warranting how much time I put into it. My personal passion is writing, even if it's sparse when I produce something of my critical perspective, but money? It's just the paper, the backbone, not the center. Your piece helped remind me of this.
Thanks Wyatt! I'm glad you enjoyed. It is just paper at the end of the day. And most times we don't even see the actual paper. We gauge our worth as a number on your screen in your banking app. I am currently focused on growing my families business and it would be easy to be monetarily focused with the potential growth we have in our market. However, I think that is exactly when you have to focus on the people and culture around you. I am 24 and planning on running my families business. I plan to shut up and listen for the most part and learn from all the great teachers I have around me. What kind of investing do you do? I just put a portion of my paycheck into my Roth IRA and a Brokerage account that is mainly invested in index and mutual funds.
I use a Robinhood Roth IRA. I thought about diversifying in Fidelity and investing in mutual funds. At the moment, I buy ETFS and used to hold tech stocks. Mostly cash basis for now to preserve my savings. In response to your focus on family business, I'm glad you find it fulfilling. I have a similar goal of joining my father's business and helping clients navigate the 'boring' but important aspects of owning a business. I'm currently expanding my skillset at community college and pursuing Accounting. Money might just be paper, but I do enjoy the logic aspect of organizing it. Thanks for the response and your insights!
